Yom Masorti - European Conference
More than 90 guests from Europe, Israel and America will join fellow UK Masorti members at a special one-day Limmud-style conference on Sunday, 7 March 2010, to be held at New North London Synagogue. Following from a highly successful first conference held in Paris in November 2009, the day will offer a unique opportunity for learning, networking and cross-communal support between Masorti communities from 9 countries and 27 kehillot located in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Hungary, the Netherlands, Portugal and the Czech Republic.
Participants may choose sessions from five different tracks. Middle East analyst Hagai Segal and Jewish historian Dr David Cesarani will speak on current political issues, while a panel discussion on volunteering in the community will feature Laura Marks, founder of Mitzvah Day, and Carolyn Bogush, chair of Limmud. More than a dozen Masorti rabbis will offer learning in ‘Teach Me Text’ sessions, and cultural activities will be offered by the Israeli Dance Institute, choir leader Judith Silver and storyteller David Bash.
A stimulating ‘Ask the Rabbis’ session will allow participants to hear Masorti rabbis from across Europe answer topical issues such as intermarriage and conversion, gay rabbis, anti-Semitism, observance and Israel.
Gill Caplin, president of Masorti Europe, explains: ‘The theme of this conference – “We Are Dreamers” – reflects our approach. It is about looking forward – building on what we have achieved and continuing to create exciting, vibrant communities across the continent. We are more than dreamers – we are doers too, and we are proving this through the clear evidence of growth and commitment all over the Masorti world of Europe. We are excited to welcome such a diverse and international audience to London for this special event.’
A £15 entry fee will also include refreshments throughout the day and a sumptuous lunch by the caterer Mint Kosher.
